Helen grew up in Parkland County, west of Edmonton. She spent a year as an exchange student in Germany before obtaining her Bachelors of Arts and Science from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. She worked as an assistant English teacher in Japan for four years before returning home to Alberta to manage a group of small businesses for 16 years. She speaks both German and Japanese at a conversational level.
After training her successors to take over her management job, Helen attended law school at the University of Alberta and obtained her J.D. (2020). She completed her articles with a rural firm and was admitted to the bar in 2021.
Her practice focuses on helping small business owners, whether that involves setting up a business, drafting contracts for diverse situations, assisting with the purchase or sale of property, or helping them create legacy plans and wills to give them peace of mind. Helen very much enjoys interacting with farmers and people in rural communities.
Outside of work, Helen enjoys travelling, reading, scrapbooking, and baking. She can often be found dragging friends and family along to local farmers markets, and sought out local markets in her time overseas. However, she most enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, two dogs, and cat. Helen has not yet reached her childhood dream of owning some miniature donkeys and pot-bellied pigs, but is working on it.
Helen is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, and Christian Legal Fellowship.
